I see there is no reference in Nick Pegg's book about Bowie's live performance of the jean genie on TOTP. Have any of you guys seen it. I recall being very disapointed with it because most of it was shot with Bowie & The spiders reflected in what i think was a bauble from a christmas tree (cool camera work). Which probably fits in with the time scale of the appearance I looked on youtube to no avail. Any one got it? Anyone remember it?

Supposedly wiped from the archive, but there are claims of it being shown at the end of an episode of Mike Reid's Pop Quiz in the mid '80s. I'm pretty sure there's a still from the performance in Dave Thompson's Moonage Daydream book.

Thanks guys. My first encounter with Bowie was on" lift off with Ayshea" (kid's show) in 72. i did not have a clue who or what he was then but was totally hooked from that day. Nearly 40 Years ago. First concert 73 at Birmingham Town Hall. How far back do you lot go?

and so far the only colour shot - the 'other' being a coloured b/w shot Attachment:

note the missing turquoise/gold collar and arm trim from David's jacket, we'll quickly skip over Ronno's green (?) jacket. Attachment:

original b/w screen capture Somewhere Harry Goodwin must have a great shot (albeit in b/w) for tomjoe: Attachment:

I saw the JG TOTP's 'live' performance and subsequent Pop Quiz question clip. Apparently? Mike Read 'lost' all the exclusive footage he had from various TOTP's shows in a car theft. Ask him!

Hiya. Re: Pop Quiz. The clip of Jean Genie used was from the 1978 Bremen broadcast - not Top of the Pops.

Did you really see the lost TOTP performance on Pop Quiz? There's been lots of debates about whether this really happened. I don't doubt you can tell the difference between the lost TOTP and Musikladen. But I'm convinced if it was on Pop Quiz it would have turned up by now as most Pop Quiz's could have been recorded on home videos and I'm sure the rare clip would have been on youtube by now. Can you remember who was on the show as a guest because if you can we can trace the edition down as all of the Pop Quiz shows exist still.

The Musikladen Jean Genie was shown on Pop Quiz in 1981, but it may not be the episode noggin remembers. Missing Episodes - Top Of The Pops forumPOP QUIZ Jul 11, 1981 Archive : BBC Mike READ chairs a quiz about rock'n'roll & pop music from 1955 to date. With Tim RICE (captain), Clem BURKE & Billy CURRIE vs Rick WAKEMAN (captain), Mike BERRY & John PEEL. And although it's unconfirmed, some also believe The Top Of The Pops performance still exists in a private collection. Nostalgic Music TV

That's funny because the only episode I have of 'Pop Quiz' is the one featuring Clem Burke (Blondie) on the panel. I haven't watched it in a while but I remember checking a few years ago and thought Bowie was used as a clip. But I knew it wasn't the lost TOTP appearance. I wish we could locate what show it was on and trace it down.
Years ago it was also rumoured the Stealers Wheel lost clip of 'Stuck In The Middle With You' from TOTP was also on Pop Quiz, that appearance has recently been unearthed at the BBC and shown on BBC4's 'Big Hits' show which also is on as I write this on BBC2. So there's hope those 2 clips do sit on an unlabelled tape somewhere at the Beeb. Just wish they'd find the bugger while I'm still alive.

OK, I'll put it another way: the only clip of Jean Genie by David Bowie to be shown on Pop Quiz was from the Bremen 1978 recording. The BBC Top of the Pops performance from 1973 has never been rebroadcast, even partly.
