It seems after Heathen Music On Vinyl will now reissue Excerpts From Outside on vinyl on March 26th, see here. According to the site above it will come with an 8-page booklet, so probably again a clone of the original release. I expect Earthling will be available later as well?

good news, at least for those being outbid on eBay for originals. i predict a perfunctory release with a drop in artwork quality as per heathen. the vinyl stock should mean a small upgrade in the sound however.

It would've been awsome if they released Earthling also. It would sound fantastic on a nice 180 Gram vinyl! ...and we would also get the full album.
I've lost many bids on Excerpts From Outside on ebay, and I can't wait to get this new edition. Shame they didn't release the full album though. 2 years ago, Music on Vinyl re-released a double edition of Eurythmics' Greatest Hits, and included all the 18 tracks from the original CD, not only the 13 tracks from the original vinyl-edition. It should have been possible to do the same with Outside.

if an audiophile label was handling these then i might agree, but it's not. MOV simply reissues what's already out there. i expect their eurythmics set was cut from the CD master. Outside is simply too long for a single LP, and a double LP would be considered too costly for most labels. the Excerpts LP actually makes for a different listen to the full CD which makes it more interesting IMO. Earthling would also benefit sonically from being made shorter on vinyl, either via a few edits or by dropping a track or two. in an ideal world these would be coming out on a different label as audiophile 2LP sets... but audiophile issues of bowie albums are few and far between. that's the saddest part.

Of course id rather have the full album on vinyl, but I must say the Excerpts version flows nicely (though I think Im deranged is not a good album closer). I also like the way it sounds. Spaceboy sounds much better on vinyl than on the cd. The artwork looks good, but I dont have a 1995 version of excerpts to compare it to so I dont know if it's a drop in quality. The only song I really miss is thru these architects eyes. Apart from that I think it's a nice and welcome release. Bring on Earthling, Black Tie and Buddha:)

an original pressing sold for £62 which goes to show that even after a reissue, the collectibility of later bowie vinyl can still surpass older titles. i have to say the MOV is an upgrade on the original. the sleeve isn't as sharp but in this case the decision to print on matt stock probably serves the artwork better (one of the worst bowie covers IMO, poor in every aspect). more importantly, the pressing is superior and, unlike MOV's Heathen, is a new cut and doesn't use the old stampers. the most obvious difference is on the opening track, which is now a second longer and cut at a more appropriate volume. this can be seen in the waveform below. with luck Earthling will follow suit and also be a new cut.

Saw a 1995 copy last weekend at the collector's fair in Utrecht. They charged 80 euro's for it. Also saw multiple copies of Black Tie White Noise for 60 euros. I was tempted to buy Black Tie, but I think I can wait for the reissue which we'll probably see at some point this year by MOV. I asked the MOV people if there are plans for Earthling, but so far they have none:( About the mastering. I read an article online about MOV where they talk about theyre vinyl production. Almost every album is remastered by them unless the artist specifically states otherwise. Guess they were allowed to tweak things a bit with Outside

I just received a copy today and have to agree it is a improvement over the first release. A more full body sound.Look forward to a similar treatment for Earthling. Stump
