If it was because the lyrics are borderline embarrassing then it makes one wonder (IMHO) how 'Laughing Gnome' made it onto the 'David Bowie' Deluxe set - in fact most of that album - along with some of Hunky Dory, most of David Bowie (Space Oddity) and all of Tonight - not to mention that awkward Tin Machine period

I agree with the majority and say: Hey David, leave them tracks alone (to misquote the Floyd)

This thread prompted me to check out the song again. Listening to it right now, I don't think it's so horrible it should have been deleted and killed with fire. It's quite catchy actually.

Looking at this from a different angle, I do recall Bowie saying that some of his songs bring back painful memories and I can't help wondering if this is one of them.

I remember playing this in someones car some years back, when it came on; the driver thought it was the Dallas theme tune! When i explained it was David Bowie he nearly crashed the car from laughing so much!! So the song always brings a smile to my face now!

"It's a throwaway. I always thought it was better for Huey Lewis! I was unsettled with that song, but it's on the album anyway." David Bowie, 1987

I'd pretty much stopped listening to Bowie for nearly a year (except for STS a few times after it was reissued). I started listening to him again and for the last few weeks the only album i've played is NLMD (including Too dizzy). It has been on quite a bit and actually sounds quite good (my wife likes it too). Not sure how long it will take to get sick of hearing it though.

Anyway my wife doesn't like Too dizzy, but I find it to be one of the catchiest songs on the album.

The song may turn up again on a future release, just like Don't sit down returned to the David Bowie / Space oddity album after it was deleted when reissued in the 70s.

Hearing NLMD again, I don't feel the overall drum sound is as bad as I originally thought it was. During the time I wasn't listening to Bowie, I listened to a lot of my other 80s music. The only songs I have a real issue with are the 12 inch of Shining star and the sax version of NLMD (which I used to love more than the original - however due to the drums, I now like the original more).
