I've always wondered -- for anyone who has heard this: is this mix just an early fade of the full-length track, or is it an actual edit of the full-length track?
Thanks!

I listened to this carefully today -- sounds great. Thanks again.
I've always enjoyed this track, but rarely made it through the whole thing -- too much of a good thing? The single edit is just right, as Goldilocks would say...

hard to believe it was to open what became the Young Americans LP isn't it? it would have been even more of a shock to listeners than the title track.
the edit is available on Bowie Rare as well as the 7" singles... but not on CD?
the full-length version is a little long and i don't think the lyrics hold up to close scrutiny ("won't you let me slam my thang in" is hardly up there with the bewlay brothers), but interesting as a reworking of his own material for sure.

ah yes, good spot. a good option for those who don't object to the EMI masterings.

There's a copy of this promo on eBay right now ("Advance Listening"), but it's a bit steep to pay for one single edit. Why this didn't make it to the commercial CD release, I have no idea. Maybe somebody really thinks the full-length track truly is the "best" of Bowie 1974-1979, and not, say, "Sons of the Silent Age" or "Be My Wife"...

i've seen it in tokyo a few times. if i see it cheap enough i'll pick it up but i'm not a fan of the EMI masterings so the vinyl is probably the best option.
the two best ofs needed a few non-LP tracks to entice the fans...

I managed to get the promo quite cheap last year on ebay, I was very happy, wanted it for years.
