I was listening to "Hey Me Get Papa" today, and I had this thought: Was "Hey Ma Get Papa" a recycling of the then-unreleased "Velvet Goldmine"?
"Velvet Goldmine" was recorded in 1971, but not released (and then without Bowie's permission) in 1975. In the meantime, Bowie & Ronson co-wrote "Hey Ma Get Papa", which was released in 1974 on Ronson's first solo LP.
Both songs have a lot of sonic similarities, both in terms of arrangements (especially in the instrumental passages) and effects (the 'gnome' voices, for example). Ronson and Bowie both participated in the recording of "Velvet Goldmine", and both would have considered it a leftover by 1974. Could they have recycled it, intentionally or unintentionally, for "Hey Ma Get Papa"?
