We all know how so many of the Ryko Reissue bonus tracks are placed on the wrong albums (the Ziggy era "Holy Holy" on TMWSTW for example) but I'm more concerned with the less identifiable tracks. I've already started a thread for "I Pray Ole" which I'm certain isn't from 1978/79 at all, but what about "Abdulmajid", "All Saints" and "Some Are"??
The Ryko sleeves are less than helpful, dating the tracks sometime between 1976 and 1979!
Clearly "Abdulmajid" and "All Saints" were untitled pieces when mixed for release in 1991 as the former is named after DB's wife who he'd just met, and "All Saints" after Eno's record label of the time. Only "Some Are" sounds like a fully 1976/77 era recording, the other two sound a bit too modern and newly mixed.
I would also question just how much Bowie input there is in these two tracks - both are Eno dominated and both could easily fit amongst the darkly percussive tracks on side two of Eno's Music For Films (recorded at the same time).
"Warszawa" came about when Eno used DB's absence to work on some pieces of his own. It just so happened that DB liked what became "Warszawa" and worked further on it. But it is entirely likely that there were any number of other Eno pieces that were not taken further. It's my guess that the two instrumental bonus tracks are two such tracks, with only minimal (if any at all) Bowie involvement.

"Some Are" however is more of a Bowie track, and the similarities between the melody and that of "Warszawa" maybe indicate that "Some Are" came first, with DB grafting elements of the vocal melody onto the Eno music of "Warszawa." Or maybe not... 34 years on, it's unlikely that the truth will ever be known, but it would be fascinating to find out. And are there really any more Low / "Heroes" era out-takes as has been hinted over the years? If so, where are they?

Cheers,
Richard

Abdulmajid according to Nicolas Pegg's The Complete David Bowie dates "either from the Low or "Heroes" sessions" and was renamed in honour of Bowie's fiancée at the time. Its original title, if there was one, is unknown.
The voice was recorded in the 1990'ies

and I strongly disagree that Bowie would put two tracks on one of his albums if they were made by someone else.. even Eno. I am pretty sure there's some Bowie on those track you are referring to adams66.
People always claim that Low side 2 is solely Eno's work (which I also disagree).
Of course Bowie + Eno influenced eachother... just like when Picasso & Braque worked close together during the early Cubist days.. in fact their paintings look so alike that they sometimes didn't know who had painted what.

all three of these tracks were included on the All Saints instrumentals albums, and i can't see Bowie taking credit where it's not due. i don't think he's ever denied the extent of Eno's role on those two records.

the problem with the Ryko tracks seems to lie in the 1991 mixing sessions. whatever was done at that time has altered the original sound enough to cause confusion over a handful of tracks. presumably Bowie was directly responsible for the additional work and allowed himself to be influenced by his then-current studio aesthetic, including his work with mixer David Richards (also responsible for the pointless remixes of Joe The Lion and Sound and Vision). it wasn't until 1995 that he shook off the slick production style that's badly dated his work from this era.
