The Spanish I Can't Read cd-single is not promo-only - there are copies with 'single promocional prohibida su venta' on the cd and copies without.
Surprising there are two variations considering how rare this single is!

Typos http://www.illustrated-db-discography.nl/Early.htm#Early

The definite (definitive ???) early Bowie collection, with five previously unreleased 1965 demo's (demos).

Pedantic I know, sorry.

In the Heat of the Morning (2:41) (demo/Audiodisc acetate 1968) which features on the bootleg "The Fogotten Songs of David Robert Jones".

Is this actaully the demo version?

I ask if this is the demo as it is not mentioned in the A to Z song listings and if it is the demo it could be Added.

The entry in the song index for C'est La Vie is now: "C'est La Vie (Bowie): available only on a single acetate.", but two versions appeared on the internet in March 2011.

Ruud,

found a Tina Turner single called "I Want You Near Me", released 1992 which has the versions of "Tonight" & "Lets Dance (Bowie) & Lets Dance (Lee)" performed live with Tina Turner (Birmingham, NEC, 23-03-85).

These songs feature on CD1 of a two CD set, Catalouge No Capitol CDCL659

Thought this would be another nice addition the the database for these 3 songs

Another track variation missing from the Songs A to Z Ruud is the "Instrumental" version of "This Is Not Amercia" as found on some of the 12" releases.

Hope this helps Ruud

except that bowie's not on the instrumental! written and performed by pat metheny group. bowie wrote the lyrics and sang, so without lyrics or vocals it's a pat metheny group track.

one i picked up from The Complete DB today. 'Safe' was re-recorded for its official release. The IdbD entry reads like it is the Rugrats version.

Suggestion for change to Young Americans listing in IDBD:

Current

released as the first single of the album with the same name (RCA 2523). The US (RCA PB 10152) and Japanese (RCA SS-2447) singles were edited from 5'10" to 3'11" and ran slightly faster than the album version. A unique 4'02" edit is included on the Australian/New Zealand editions of The Best Of Bowie LP.

New information:

The Australian single which listed the track as "The Young Americans" (RCA 102584) first contained the full version, though this was switched to the US edit. Label timings for both issues indicate the full version.

suggestion update to Andy Warhol in IdbD

current:

from Hunky Dory. Also released as B-side to 'Changes' (RCA 2160), lacking the studio chat intro on a/o the US single (RCA 45-0605). An alternate and slightly longer intro was released on the BOWPROMO white-label album; this version is available on MissingLinksOneZiggy (Icon One). A shorter version of the intro was used on The Collection (3'47" vs. 3'57"). Performed for the BBC's Sound Of The Seventies program in 1971 (on BBC Sessions 1969-1972 Sampler) and 1972 (on Bowie At The Beeb). Performed on 1971/72 live dates (on Live Santa Monica '72) and again in 1995, on the Outside tour.

new information

written for and recorded in 1971 with Dana Gillespie on lead vocals and the Hunky Dory band, though not released until 1974 on the album Weren't Born a Man. The first available mix of this recording was on the Gem Management BOWPROMO white-label album; also available much later, though sped up, on the Oh! You Pretty Things (2006) compilation CD. Performed live in a similar arrangement, with Dana on lead vocals on June 5, 1971 for the BBC show In Concert: John Peel. First available on Ziggy 2 and then later in excellent quality on Kiss the Viper's Fang. The Bowie version, essentially stripped back to acoustic guitars appeared also in 1971 on Hunky Dory.

The two earliest available live versions with this acoustic arrangement were recorded four days apart in September '71.

suggested change for Future Legend:

current

Future Legend (Bowie): the introduction to Diamond Dogs. Also appears unaccredited on David Live.

new information ( not that new actually)

Utilises some of the music from the song Bewitched ( Richard Rogers). This is acknowledged on few RCA issues on the label ( eg UK, Yugoslavia, Australia and Italy) and even less on the cover as well (Australia 2nd issue and Italy). Not acknowledged on most (a/o US)

And couldn't resist this addition :D :

BBC sessions

Top Of The Pops (04-01-73)

David Bowie: vocals, harmonica and maraca; Mick Ronson: guitar and backing vocals; Trevor Bolder: bass; Mick Woodmansey: drums.

Recorded the previous day on the third, this included a rip-roaring performance of 'The Jean Genie'. The second appearance on the show within eight months, this time the band performed live with no backing tapes. The third of three takes, the performance is notable as it that it features only one guitar; most, if not all, other recordings having at least two.

(a la Starman)

Top Of The Pops (14-04-72)

With a classical performance of 'Starman'. Another TV performance, sung live to a backing track. Featured on the Look Back In Anger (Mister Jones 1/2) LP and (incomplete) on the 1980 Floor Show (Chapter One CO 25155) CD. This performance too is available on the Best Of Bowie DVD.
