The Omikron: The Nomad Soul game uses a version that slower compared to the hours... version (5'35" vs. 5'23"). This version was released as Omikron: The Nomad Soul Slower Version on the 2004 Limited 2CD Edition of hours...

actually the version on the hours... 2CD isn't slower at all, in fact it's very marginally faster and the difference in running times is due to a longer closing section.

I'm glad it wasn't just me. They always sounded the same speed when I listened.

Mother Don't Be Frightened:

The first of five Dana Gillespie tracks on side B. This song, which was produced and arranged by David Bowie and Mick Ronson, appeared in 1974 on her Weren't Born A Man album in a more complex mix, with added instrumentation.


Andy Warhol:

Originally written by David for Dana Gillespie, musically backed by The Spiders and produced by Bowie/Ronson. This is a quite different, shorter mix (2'45" vs 3'02"), compared to what appeared on Weren't Born A Man. The intro is faded in and the mix is more direct and less echoey than on that album. The outro on the BOWPROMO also is much shorter and less guitar-heavy. This mix has recently been released on Oh! You Pretty Things, though though on that CD it is (incorrectly) mastered at a faster speed, resulting in a higher pitch. (2'45" vs 2'37")


Never Knew:

A different recording of this was released on Dana Gillespie's Ain't Gonna Play No Second Fiddle. A second recording was released on the Andy Warhol CD. The version contained here is different again - the first of the three available recordings.


All Cut Up On You:

This is a much shorter recording (3'23" vs 4'12") than on Weren't Born A Man.

Lavender Hill:

This ballad was not released until the 1994 Andy Warhol CD. The version contained on this LP is a different recording from the previous year (1972 vs 1971).

Ruud, you may wish to hold off on this update, as I suspect that all five recordings are Bowie/Ronson productions, as well as most likely having the Hunky Dory band play on them.

These corrections also necessitate a minor change in the introductory paragraph:

However, as the recording and mixing of that album had not yet been finished, it transpired that the BOWPROMO LP contained two songs that would not end up on any official album for the next 20 years in any version - Bowie's 'Bombers' and Gillespie's 'Lavender Hill'. Besides, it features marginally to very different early mixes/versions.

Perfect Day (Lou Reed): from the Lou Reed's Transformer, produced by Bowie and Mick Ronson. Re-recorded in 1997 for the 75th anniversary of the BBC; released later as a benefit for BBC Children In Need. Bowie, alongside Lou Reed, Bono, Suzanne Vega and many others, sings two lines. The CD-single (Chrysalis 7243 8 84934 2 0) also has a Male Version (3'48") of the song.
