The Buddha Of Suburbia

The first US CD (monochome artwork) was released on 24th October 1995.

Love You Till Tuesday

It's probably not a good idea to expand the IdbB to include all pressings, but it may be worth mentioning that the collectible Pickwick album was also manufactured and released in Australia. Apart from a monochrome logo on the CD and the Australian notices on the rear inlay, the artwork is the same as the UK release.

The spanish promo "copy and paste" error has also reappeared.

"Lets Twist Again" entry.

Not sure if this is useable as an update as the history is sketchy but it seems "Lets Twist Again" was written by Kal Mann and Dave Appell.

Ive tried to find the writers and these are the two names that crop up???? Hope this helps.

Future Legend (Bowie): the introduction to Diamond Dogs. Utilises some of the music from the song Bewitched, Bothered And Bewildered (Rogers/Hart). This is acknowledged on few RCA issues on the label (e.g. UK, Yugoslavia, Australia and Italy) and even less on the cover as well (Australia second issue and Italy); not acknowledged on most. The track appears unaccredited on David Live.

also credited on the German Best Buy series black Label with a timing track: Featuring 30 seconds Bewitched"

Hi Ruud

Another few suggestions for the song A to Z.

The songs below performed by The Lower Third at the BBC radio One audition 02/11/1965

Out Of Time (Ted Wright)
Thats A Promise (Bowie)
Chim Chim Che-ree (Robert B. Sherman & Richard M. Sherman)

Of course Thats A Promise is on the list but maybe a comment that is was performed?

Hope these are useable Ruud

In the DVD section, the 2008 Glass Spider re-issue (Immortal IMM 940119), November 2008 (Netherlands)

http://www.illustrated-db-discography.nl/Video3.htm#gsl

The header title for this says "Remeber That Night" from David Gilmours title above it instead of Glass Spider Live

Thought best to point this out for correction

Hi Ruud

Another song / performance you may like to add to the songs database as it Is missing, Im going through my own Bowie lists again, comparing here and spotted this:

Let It Be (Paul McCartney) Performed at the Live Aid Concert , London Wembley Stadium 13 July 1985 with Paul McCartney, Bob Geldof, Alison Moyet and Pete Townsend. Bowie is not very audible during this performance!

Im currently re reading Steve Paffords Record Collector article from 2008 on the unreleased Anthology set and unreleased items etc and found this comment:

Cosmic Dancer (Morrisey Live featuring Bowie 02/06/1991 LA Inglewood Forum, USA) - this song was mixed at Abbey Road Studios in 1991, but remains unreleased

Ive not found any other evidence of this being mixed. Has anyone else heared about this? If it is true maybe another comment addition to the songs database?

Update of the listing for Rebel Rebel.

See post for April 3, 2012

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=594

as well as Roman's relevant paragraph in the original post:

Quote:
Geoff MacCormack recorded the castanets and congas present on the "phased" version sometime after his and Bowie's NYC landing on April 11th. Bowie added some vocals. The "phased" version is, thus, a remix with added percussion and vocals.

Current listing:

Rebel Rebel (Bowie): three different versions exist. The familiar version was released in edited and remixed form (4'22" instead of 4'31" and much more echoey than the album version) as the the first single from Diamond Dogs (RCA LPBO 5009). The Australian Rebel Rebel EP (RCA RCA 20610) features a shorter 4'06" edit. Further mixes of this version are found on bootlegs: a 'dry mix' ("BBC Version") was released on Absolutely Rare (no label) and The Axeman Cometh (DB003) has a "Mix 1", supposedly from a 1973 acetate, but this version is very similar (if not completely identical) to the regular single edit. The second version (often referred to as the US or "phased" version) is rumoured to be played entirely by Bowie. It was released in May 1974, three months after the first issue, but only in the US, Canada (both RCA APBO-0287) and Mexico (RCA SP-4049). The US single version was re-released on several bootleg singles and albums, before officially appearing on Sound + Vision II and the 30th Anniversary 2CD Edition of Diamond Dogs. In 2003, a newly recorded version was included on the Charlie's Angels - Full Throttle soundtrack, which too was included as a bonus track on the 2004 Diamond Dogs reissue. A Soulwax Edit is be found on their 50,000,000 Soulwax Fans Can't Be Wrong (Wiretap WTCD02). The 1974 performance on Top Pop was released on the Best Of Bowie DVD. David Live contains a live performance quite similar to US single version. Furthermore, 'Rebel Rebel' was featured on every tour following, including the shows performed in 2000 and 2002; it even opened most shows of the 2003/04 Reality tour. Other official live versions are available on the Live Nassau Coliseum '76, Serious Moonlight, Live Aid, Glass Spider, VH1 Storytellers and A Reality Tour 2CD/DVDs.

Suggested listing:

Changes in bold.
Sentence about Bowie playing all instruments on US version removed.

Rebel Rebel (Bowie): Two different studio recordings released, the first recording officially released in three different mixes. The familiar version was released in edited and remixed form (4'22" instead of 4'31" and much more echoey than the album version) as the the first single from Diamond Dogs (RCA LPBO 5009). The second mix is the less echoey album version, and can be identified by it ending rather than fading out. The third mix contains additional instrumentation, cuts outs the first 1:20 of the single mix, and commences with the phrase "Hot tramp, I love you so". This third mix is often referred to as the US or "phased" version. It was released in May 1974, three months after the first issue, but only in the US, Canada (both RCA APBO-0287) and Mexico (RCA SP-4049). The US single version was re-released on several bootleg singles and albums, before officially appearing on Sound + Vision II and the 30th Anniversary 2CD Edition of Diamond Dogs. i'd reword the description of the single mix. the echo/reverb is really only apparent towards the end of the track on the single, when it's added as an effect on the guitar at "how could they know". it's there from the start on the album version, hence it's the single that has the dry mix and the album version that's more "echoey" (not sure that's a word!).

the mix differences are also about placement and can most easily be identified by the opening bars. if the tapping drumsticks are there from the start it's the album version.

the single version is superior IMO, far more definition between instruments (e.g. the acoustic guitar in the right channel is much more distinct) without the murk of reverb over everything in the album version.

also i know a fade is technically an edit but "edited" suggests something was removed, and it wasn't.

should i upload some comparison samples?

Yes please! I still need to overlay both versions as mentioned here by Colin. A remix?!
