One section obviously missing from the discography are the vinyl singles. Somehow I never got to that and in retrospect it's easy to see why: the number of David Bowie singles is just overwhelming.
Marshall Jarman has published an impressive overview of the Bowie singles released between 1964 and 1981. His World 7" Records Discography (ISBN 0 9522275 0 9) is the bible for any fan collecting David Bowie vinyl singles. However, even Marshall's book is not fully complete and of course Bowie also has released singles after 1981.
This forum is intended as a place to collect information about all singles not included in World 7" Records Discography. Additionally, I think it's worthwhile not to stick to just 7" singles. 12"es are treated in the discography, but in general only the UK catalogue numbers are mentioned. It will be handy to gather information on these singles as well.
When starting a new topic, I propose the following standardized text for the subject title:
7/12" - year of release - name of the song on the A-side
This should improve searching for information once this forum has been filled with plenty of information!

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of Marshall Jarman's book?
I've never been "into" 7" really, but it would be nice to have a look in it...

It sometimes pops up on eBay, but usually for good money ($60+). Maybe you could contact Marshall to see if he has any copies left?

I haven't the Marshall Jarman's book too
I'd just like to know if the 7" section of the Bassman's website is less or more complete than the book ?
PS : thanks from France for your "Illustrated db Discography"

Marshall's book is much more complete than the 7"-section on Bassman, though Bassman has scans of the backside of singles which the book lacks.

The number of singles is already so huge in 7" section on Bassman...
@Zig : have you succeed in your quest of the Book ?

maybe it's because i'm a graphic designer that it bugs me, but marshall's research and dedication were deserving of a much more attractive book that the result... poor sleeve reproductions and typography mean it's functional but not a feast for the eyes. it's an essential book of course but if it ever sees an updated reprint i'd love to see a redesign.

I know you guys are busy with the IdbD, but with this site & Bassmans' everything is there ready for a revamp of Marshalls great book. There are now scans of almost every single in colour so that part is already covered. I for one would be glad to pay a good price for an updated version.
Any thoughts ?

I think if there was to be a revision of Marshall Jarman's book it would be more logical to do it online - cheaper, less hassle and easier to update.
I would love something like this to appear, but I'm afraid it will be a lot of work still - Bassman's site has a lot of scans, but they are very small. Furthermore it isn't complete, and I'm afraid it will be very hard to get good scans and information of some singles - take for instance all the variations of the 80s singles. They're not expensive or hard to get, but haven't been documented anywhere.
I wouldn't mind scanning my collection of 7"es for the good cause, but even though I have over 300 7"es it is still a fraction of what exists. Is there anywhere with a huge collection of rare singles and a scanner here?

for technical reasons the vast majority of online scans aren't print-worthy. most online images are 72dpi as that's the screen resolution. print works differently and requires images at 300dpi minimum to reproduce well.
a task such as this would need original sources or at least high quality scans before it began. but, if the good people of this and other bowecentric sites don't have the goodies then who does? i have a couple of hundred pic sleeves and although there will be a lot of crossover between collections i'm sure an impressive start could be made.
i'd also suggest that rather than replicate the book with all its label variations and countless sleeveless variations that it be a book/site of 7" picture sleeves from around the world and that it be broken into volumes based on decades. this would make it far more manageable than the colossal task of covering a 40+ year career.
if this idea receives enough support to get off the ground, i'd gladly volunteer my services for a print version - i'm not a web designer.
