Issued five months prior to the UK "dress cover", the US "cartoon cover" was the first of three alternate sleeves for the original release of the album on Mercury, a fourth added when RCA went with a contemporary Ziggy-era shot for their 1972 reissue. Counterfeits exist, distinguishable by a scratched matrix # in the dead wax area and by a softer image quality which is really only obvious once the two are compared side by side. Promotional copies have black and white labels, see below.
