Apologies if this was dealt with when each box set came out but I am wondering how many of the single edits included on the 3 Re:Call sets are not the genuine article?

I'm compiling a set of CDs for personal use of various officially released rarities (called Beyond Re:Call) and don't want to include proper edits of singles if these are contained on the Re:Call volumes. [Note I started this project in 2014 and then put it on hold with the appearance of the Five Years box set as ReCall 1 covered some of the same material and required me to start again.]

Also, has the properly sped up US 7" edit of Young Americans ever been correctly represented on any compilation?

Thanks in advance

Mic

it depends how fussy you are about original vs remastered sound, but IMO all of the following should be replaced with actual singles.

Re:Call 1

Disc I.

1. Space Oddity (UK mono single edit)
correct edit, but questionable source. does not sound as it should.

2. Wild-Eyed Boy From Freecloud (UK mono single version)
as track 1

3. Ragazzo Solo Ragazza Sola (stereo single version)
not authentic. single was mono only. recreated version from 2009 stereo master.

8. All The Madmen (US promo single edit)
as track 1

9. Janine (US promo mono version)
as track 1

11/12. Moonage Daydream/Hang On To Yourself (Arnold Corns versions)
as track 1

Disc II.

1. Changes (UK mono single)
not authentic. fold-down of current stereo remaster.

2. Andy Warhol (mono single edit)
not authentic. UK single was the full album version in mono, US single was the edit in stereo.

4. John I'm Only Dancing (original version)
as disc I track 1

5. The Jean Genie (single mix)
as disc I track 1

6. Drive-in Saturday (german single edit)
not authentic. 40th anniversary stereo master faded early.

7. Round And Round (original b-side mix)
correct mix, but inferior sound.

9. Time (single edit)
not authentic due to inherent noise removal and dropout.

Re:Call 2

1. Rebel Rebel (single mix)
poor needledrop

2. Diamond Dogs (Australian Single Edit)
not authentic. recreated from 2016 master.

3. Rebel Rebel (US)
close but runs a little faster than actual single.

4. Rock'n'Roll With Me (live promo edit)
not authentic. recreated and shaves off the last two words of the actual single.

5. Panic In Detroit (live b-side)
close but fade is a couple of seconds shorter than actual single.

6. Young Americans (single edit)
i think this might be accurate but lacks bass compared to original single.

7. Fame (single edit)
not authentic. Edit point is inaccurate compared to the original single.

8. Golden Years (single edit)
close but runs 1.5 seconds slower than actual (UK) single.

9. Station To Station (single edit)
not authentic. The fade begins too late but ends two seconds earlier.

10. TVC15 (single edit)
close but runs 1.5 seconds slower than the original single and has less compression (notable in the intro).

13. John, I'm Only Dancing (Again) (single edit)
close but opening 9 seconds appear to be from a different (louder) source than the rest of the track.

Re:Call 3 i'll need to get back to you... this one fares better than the above but it's mastered too loud. i remember Peace On Earth is not accurate... maybe one or two others.

Wow! That's exactly the sort of information I was hoping for - thank you so much Shooky - that's really appreciated. Its somewhat disappointing to hear that so much of these discs could have been a more accurate representation of what they purport to be.

If you can get back to me with Re:Call 3 then that would be equally appreciated.

I had a post saved on these two on previous comps, which I need to find.
