I've decided to sell the jewel in my collection. A quarter-inch reel to reel tape with six songs. These are Bombers, Amsterdam, Velvet Goldmine, Holy Holy, Round and Round and All The Young Dudes.
Bombers has a longer outro than previously heard versions (more of the Andy Warhol segue 'laugh'. Round and Round is the alternate take used on the S+V box set. Velvet Goldmine is a slightly different mix. Dudes is in full stereo and at the correct speed.
Along with the tape, I'll throw in a CD-R mixdown of all the tracks.
This sounds very interesting - even though the differences are minor I always love to hear stuff like this. And a stereo version of All The Young Dudes would be terrific of course!
Hi Maarten
It is interesting. I have applied to join the BowieWonderWorld Board. I want to reply to the person selling the reel. I always seem to have problems getting verified on that board. That is why you never see me post there.
I felt the exchange between Kentish and Michael was unproductive.
Anyway, I would compose an open letter to the seller and ask he or she to step outside their comfort zone and not sell the reel but provide free copies of the tracks on CDR instead. That is what I would do with something of that calibre. Why hold on to the stuff? I intend to do that with the Nassau reel at the earliest opportunity. The longer people hold on to rarities the greater the chance that they will be lost or damaged.
I copied and distributed the BBC TOTP disc first chance I had. Same with the Bowie covers by Dee Dee and Kenny Miller.
Cheers
John

According to a post on BWW no offers were made on this. I for one would be very interested in hearing this - maybe we could do a group buy?
