I've just been alerted to a potential rarity concerning the recent Diamond Dogs picture disc issues. On both sides of the disc, Bowies head is supposed to be at the top of the disc in both pictures. On some however, the A side of Bowie with the dog, Bowies head is at the top of the disc but when you turn it over, the B side picture, his head is at the bottom, not at the top. I have one and What records are selling another in which Bowies head is 90 degrees to the right (See the link). I have no idea how rare this makes them, but it might be worth checking out.

Ok, but assuming the pictures are pressed onto the disc, then it may be a mis-pressing, though not audibly. I don't know anyone who's opened their discs, so they may well be audibly mis-pressed too. I'm making a short video to illustrate the difference between the singles. I'd like to know how many are like this.

Most picture discs traditionally try to keep the top of each picture the same on each face and this series has been no different.
However the job is not exact and there is normally at least a small variance on each side so not a mispressing just bad quality control.

Am only buying those with unusual tracks now and I personally doubt there is any value in a shoddy job on a disc of this lower collect-ability.

Great if you like seeing him upside down though.

The picture disc series might be full of rare tracks or mis-pressings. I don't know anyone who's even opened the 1984.RNRS/DD series, so they haven't been listened to!

There's a version of the Starman pic disc of which I *think* there are only five copies in existence which have a mis-pressed picture on them. The A side is the normal one but the B side features a still from the TOTP Jean Genie performance. That's certainly a rarity but as to the value, nobody has any idea because nobody has ever seen one come up for sale.

I wouldn't mind having it, though.

Opened and listened to 1984 and most of the discs and quality not great (as you would expect on pic discs).

On the quality issue

Starman picture disc weighs in at 94g (including wallet) and with a bit of fluctuation so do some other early ones in the series.

This has reduced in jumps to Diamond Dogs 64g and I believe the love that has gone into the product has diminished by the same amount.

Upside-down and angled Bowie are further testament to quality of a run that just by plastic costs is worth 33% less than the early discs.

Bought mine at the weekend, and indeed they have misaligned pictures, so I would say it's pretty common then. Nothing to get the wallet out for.
