I don’t know if anyone here has a list that can answer this question. So, I went through the vinyl discography and list all the countries that are here now, album by album. You’ll find the results in the attached Excel document.

I can – with all the risks – arrive to the conclusions or interrogations here:

The analysis is made without considering the « live » albums, because I can imagine they don’t have the same potential as regular’s ones, so can’t be pressed in some « rare » countries…

Some countries, I’ve listed in grey, have some missing records, blank holes, in their list, but the reason why can only be imagined:

- Argentina and Chile, only have a Pin Ups pressing listed because it was a huge and fast success… that can explain a « local » pressing...

- Colombia, have just Aladdin Sane, Pin Ups, and then Lodger and Scary Monsters, which can be explained by « periods » of local pressings?

- Ecuador, have only Pin Ups and Scary Monsters, as for the first one, because of the huge and fast success of the album...

- El Salvador, why only Station to Station? (it can be explained as for Pin Ups and Scary Monsters) with the Hits of this records??? and political reasons?

But for others countries, listed in yellow, it’s hard to find, by default, a logic for some « holes » in the local production and there must be missing pressing that exist... and not already listed in the IdbD:

- Belgium, only Lodger missing? between Stage and Scary Monsters?

- India, Why Young Americans missing as all the others from Ziggy to STS have local editions?

- Ireland, Young Americans and Lodger only missing?

- Israel , only Lodger missing?

- Portugal , only Pin Ups missing?

- Turkey, Young Americans and Low missing?

- Venezuela, Aladdin Sane and Diamond Dogs, missing?

- Zimbabwe, Pin Ups, Diamond Dogs, Heroes, Lodger missing...

Of course economical or political reasons can be found, but, if someone got info about these RCA local productions, that can help to find what we are looking for?

Nicolas

Interesting Nicolas, thank you.

My first thought while looking at your list is that the Mozambique Pin Ups stands out as an odd release. It’s certainly difficult to imagine Bowie being big in Mozambique :-) As it’s manufactured by the South African Teal company and it comes in a South African sleeve, it may have also been manufactured for South Africa.

It also looks like RCA tried to break into the South American market with Pin Ups and failed everywhere except Brazil and Mexico. Which may also explain why we’ve seen two Peruvian promos for Pin Ups :-)
