Hi, I recently bought what I thought was a withdrawn hunky dory sleeve from simply vinyl.
It has the round stickers, which some of the (official ?) reissues by simply vinyl seem to have.

The above cover is the "withdrawn" sleeve, whereas the lower cover is the official version.

In the official version the label is white, not this black.

So far I thought this still was official, until I saw the run out groove...

black rose
br2-1972
produit de france
331/3 rpm
Pierre @ Louis XIV

So unless gives me some real good explanation, this has to be unofficial...

Unfortunately you're right. It's a counterfeit.
However, that one is still rare (not as rare as the original, but still...)

As I thought, well, it's return to sender for me then.

Also, I posted this in a seperate thread,
are there official simply vinyl reissues with round stickers, like this one, or are they too counterfeits ?

Well, I can't be 100% sure, but I haven't seen any official round stickers on the official series.

Thank you!

I should say, not round stickers on the front cover. There is a round sticker on the back.

Hi Zig,

there's another one for sale and I suspect it is another bootleg...
But you'd know best, the back is far too yellow and misses the grain from your copy, right ?

Plus that would mean the seller is lying too...

That is odd, the eBay seller (welwynrose) is also one of the bowieNet competition winners. Not that we know which prize he chose and the username spelling is a little different.

Bowienet Give-away - June Winners: 1st July 2006 – welwnrose

It looks real to me, but I can't be sure. And £100 is a very good price! If it stays there....

I dont know...

I fear it is the bootleg sleeve, with the correct vinyl in the correct pvc sleeve.
I mean, it really is completely different in colour scheme.
I put them aside to one another, using your image Zig which I hope is ok to you...

My copy isn't that grainy in real life. I don't own a good camera (just my iPhone), One thing I did noticed is the lettering "by... Ken Scott" isn't cut off on the bootleg/pirate but it is on the legit copy (and it's the same on the one sold on ebay now).

Compare
1. My copy (as you can see, not so grainy)
2. Ebay copy
3. Pirate copy

Another one:
David Bowie - Hunky Dory (180 GRAM SIMPLY VINYL) RARE WITHDRAWN COVER LP
but this time it is clearly the counterfeit!
