Please correct me if I am wrong but it seems to me that the version of Do Anything You Say on the Japanese CD issue of "I Dig Everything: The 1966 Pye Singles" is a different mix to that available elsewhere.

The "trilling" notes at the beginning seem different and there are additional guitar bits and other sounds during the song. For example, listen to the second line "Lonely nights...."

Am I imagining it or is the recording simply a better mastering of the original? I do not possess other CD issues (US, UK) of that specific title to cross check.

On a related note, does anyone posses a copy of the 3 x 10" (ESB10 765) box set of that release? I would love to purchase a copy.

Cheers

John

Good find! I just compared the track between my 3cd box of 'I Dig Everything - The 1966 Pye Singles' and 'Early On 1964-1966'. It is definately a different mix - especially the piano is almost nonexistant on the former. In fact the mix on the 3cd box sounds a lot worse compared to Early On, very muffled.

As to your other question: I have a couple of issues of 'I Dig Everything - The 1966 Pye Singles':
The cd box set, the 7" box set, and a 180 gram 12" issue. I have a regular cd coming in soon as well. I must say I don't remember having seen the 10" - has anyone else ever seen this?

I've got the 10" issue (ESM10765)
Bought it at Sister Ray in London a couple of years ago (£13.99... still has the price-tag on it, that's why I know).

Zig - is that one 10" or three 10"es in a box set? It would seem there are two issues (ESM10765 for the single 10" and ESB10765 for the box), but I can't find any proof for the 10" box set.

The single 10". I doubt there is a 3X10" release.
Maybe the planned one, but didn't go through with it...

I have never seen the 3 x 10" box set either. I have checked in on eBay and the other sites (MusicStack, etc) but I have not seen it listed. Perhaps it never made release? I do not know.

I knew about the Do Anything You Say variation years ago when my friend Craig in Manchester mentioned to me in an email. The next day I went to Tower Records in Suntec City, Singapore and bought the Japanese import of the CD. Sure enough the difference was noticeable straight.

I never saw it mentioned on the boards, etc so I assumed that everyone just knew as I was a little out of touch while I worked overseas.

The 3 x 7" Box Set is one of my favourite box sets actually. Very well done in my opinion.

A couple of years ago someone mentioned this on BWW, but didn't realise it was on the PYE singles album/box, but when this person posted it, I went checking my various cds with this song and noticed the alt version was on my box set of singles. I let Nick Pegg know about it but it was too late to go in the last edition (IIRC).

If you listen to the European release of the 1966 cd on PRT and compare this with the European released I dig everything cd on Castle you hear the same differences.
The 1966 cd is of a bad quality and maybe that is the reason that some instruments can hardly be heard.
Compare and have a listen to the track Do anything you say at 46 seconds and you hear what I mean.

It was issued only a couple of years ago, so not that rare. There are 3 or 4 on eBay right now. It's a gatefold by the way.
