What do we have to go on?

A live show, from one of the Japan gigs maybe? The single edits of Time, Jean Genie (Yawn .. again) the Omega tapes from 2019 auction? Zion?

Would Pin Ups be included in the box?
We finally get an official release of the 1980 floor show, complete with 'Rock n Roll Suicide'
'White Light White Heat'?
Lulu (did I really type that?)

The big question is, which version of 'The Supermen' will be included?

Is it too early to speculate?

It'd have to be an Aladdin + Pin-ups set I think? As you've said, I don't think there'd be enough otherwise.

An early version of 1984 was attempted in the Aladdin sessions supposedly, so maybe that could go in? Zion/Tragic Moments of course. And supposedly there was a version of Ladytron attempted for Pin-ups, who knows whether that's just hearsay though.

No radio sessions obviously. Maybe some undocumented home demos or reherasals? Early studio takes if there are any sufficiently interesting alternative versions?

They could always do an early version of the album featuring John i'm only dancing (sax) in the running order.

Maybe Bowie had another go at Shadow man and a few older songs before coming up with The Prettiest Star.

Be careful posting this sort of thing as Parlophone might pick it up and think it's what fans of his music want! :)

The pointless Waiting in the Sky will be one of the first releases I won't buy.
"Here is what would have happened if Bowie had released the album that he deemed not good enough and hadn't added iconic tracks" is not a concept I would buy (unless there were additions of new takes/material).

The Gouster (with its unavailable tracks) or any pre Lennon track listing of Young Americans made sense as Bowie undermined his own concept by adding songs that really should have been on a stand alone single.

Yong Americans was finished + before the night with Lennon these other albums were just going through Drafts before a decision was made about additional songs and release that would actually improve them.

+(OK finished in that Visconti was adding the last strings to the final mix of some tracks).

Will the Ziggy album receive 'Divine Symmetry ' treatment?

It would be of some interest perhaps if Parlophone or whoever released the original running order of the album, akin to 'The Gouster'**

Side One:
Five Years / Soul Love / Moonage Daydream / Round and Round / Port of Amsterdam

Side Two:
Hang Onto Yourself / Ziggy Stardust / He's a Goldmine / Holy Holy / Star / Lady Stardust

** Meant, with demo's and/or alternative takes

Yes the caveat of different original takes or unheard material for any release is essential to anything.

A compilation like Waiting in the Sky is just moving old furniture about.

I think we're straying from the forum topic, but as it's a bit speculative anyway... ;)

If the mixes on Waiting In The Sky would be completely identical to the album versions, it wouldn't make any sense to include both albums on the blu-ray of Rock 'N' Roll Star, would it?

I have thought that from the start but at no point have the Bowie site announced any difference?
The French Amazon DVD info shows a few remasters but of original mix even though they already have the album ones earlier. For Round and Round the fact that the original is only on the DVD at the "Waiting for the Sky" point and the alternative take further on in the DVD points to the RSD release being rather boring.

By the way I love the 6 Disc release and the LP with it.

Sorry this should't really be on this post as you said Ruud

Of course - the 'Pinups Radio Show' - that has to be included (padding)

So... things have been quiet for a while now. Have any rumours surfaced of an Aladdin / Pinups box? Any mysterious new titles appearing on PPL?

You're not being a bit harsh there? After all, it was submitted to RCA and RCA allocated matrices to all songs and sides.

I don't recall reading anything substantive that indicates why it wasn't released as such, though can only speculate that at the time it was submitted (late 1971), Hunky Dory had just been released in the States, and was yet to be released elsewhere - in other words the new album would be waiting for release...... ... and in that period there was a reconsideration.

To Aladdin Sane, is it only the one track (Zion) that was mentioned at the time (and that was still without lyrics)?

Unlike the very fertile period in 1971 and early 1972, once the touring commenced there wasn't that many new songs.

For the finished album there were only seven 'new' tracks, two re-recordings (one which didn't make it) the Stones cover and the remix of The Jean Genie.

One can only speculate why those re-recordings and remix occurred - to put the songs 'front and centre' in a sonically compatible manner? to include those two 'stand alone' singles from '72? or done in the absence of new material?

Whilst the prospect of unreleased recordings is tantalising, the story of how and why the re-recordings and remix came to be would fill in the picture that remains unseen.

A studio recording of 'My Death' would be top of my wants list, if indeed it ever happened!

One inclusion could be 'White Light, White Heat' from the Pinups session. The backing track later being utilised on Mick Ronson's 'Play Don't Worry' album, with Ronson covering the lead vocal.
'My Death' Kevin Cann (Any Day Now) feels it is "Highly likely" that there is a studio version, made during the recording of another Brel' song, 'Amsterdam' at the Château.
