In the July issue of Uncut, the Bowie article discusses the 1976 tour band rehearsing in Jamaica and taking "a trip to Kingston, recording a version of the Pop/Alomar/Bowie composition 'Sister Midnight' in a studio there."

Does anyone know anything else about this?

I just asked the same over on BWW, as this also piqued my interest when i read it in the mag.

is there a source for the quote? otherwise i'd take it with a pinch of salt. it could just as easily have been a rehearsal or a demo take. it's highly likely that hundreds of unheard demos exist for bowie's entire discography, plus dozens more he chose not to release, so this is just as likely to be true as not.

or perhaps it's the real reason for the delay on the STS deluxe... they're adding a fourth disc of hitherto unknown outtakes including the aborted soundtrack to TMWFTE. i jest.

Does he do Sister Midnight at the Rehearsal footage from the STS tour? If so maybe this is what they are talking about? It is a long time since I listened or watched the rehearsals.

i believe so... that's not to say what's reported isn't true, but could just as easily be the result of a hazy memory. i haven't seen the article so i'm guessing.

It's hard to get any real facts from these kinds of articles, and of course there is no source for the quote. There are mistakes in the article (as pointed out by Blammo on bowienet). But the quote pretty clearly says a "studio" recording, so I don't think it is talking about a live, tour rehearsal version. I am just surprised that something like this could be mentioned as a sort of side note, when it has never been mentioned before (to my knowledge).

yes, they do "Sister Midnight" on the rehearsal tape. I was actually just listening to it the other day!
