A (hopefully) quick question.
Having a beer with an old friend at the weekend the subject of Bowie's retirement or otherwise came up, and I was asked - what is the most recent recording that DB has made?
I pondered and came up with a few possibilities -
"You Can Do That" with BT;
the rework of "Time Will Crawl" (though how much involvement DB had in that is open to question);
the Little Fat Man song from Extras;
And arguably the two songs at David Gilmour's concert that took place around the same time.
This period (Extras / Gilmour) was also, by my reckoning, the last time he ventured over the Atlantic to dear old Blighty.
So - do we know, for certain, if any recordings have been made in the last few years, and therefore what is definitely Bowie's most recent recording?
Cheers,
Richard

don't the Scarlett Johansson tracks from 2008 come after these?

Yes, I think the Scarlett Johansson songs are the most recent recordings.

I'd completely forgotten about the Johansson recordings... Sadly not DB at his most impressive...

"She Can Do That" was issued in summer 2005 but could easily have been taped quite some before.
The Gilmour guest spot was May 2006.
Extras was filmed around the same time as the Gilmour gig.
The Johansson album was recorded in spring 2007 according to various info I just found on t'internet. So I guess that's the last time DB did any musical recording. Getting on for four years now...

So that means that the Johansson songs are his last recordings to date, and that the Extras song is his last original song to date!

And don't forget TV On The Radio. Was that 2005? I can't remember...

The last live performance to date was with Alicia Keys, Black Ball November 9th 2006 - unless you count the live version of 'Little Fat Man' introducing Rickey Gervais at the Highline festival, May 19th 2007.

Thanks for the info -
From all that I'd say it's been way too long since David did something musical.
Maybe one day...

the vocals were recorded after the Reality Tour, so it would seem to be the most recent original lyric recorded, or at least released.

I find those performances to be quite good actually. I love his back-up singing and harmonizing.
