GM: You also have Bowie memorabilia up for auction. Does a rock star’s death make memorabilia more sought after? Is that merely a mainstream assumption? Or does it depend?

JVG: Good question and I think it’s a little bit of everything you mentioned. Sure, there’s always the immediate wave of demand and with Bowie that was no exception. But in general, it’s just a small spike on the longevity chart of an artist’s overall degree of collectability. Bowie was already collectible and will remain collectible long after his death. The prices are a little higher now than usual and with time, let’s say a year or so from now, it’ll swing back to where it was. And yes, we do have some cool Bowie collectibles. The one piece that deserves upfront mention is that we have literally the only one existing multi-color vinyl pressing of “Heroes”, coming directly from the L.A.-based pressing plant that was commissioned by RCA Records at the time.

This must be one of those custom pressings like the multicolored Station To Station, red Low, orange Lodger or purple Scary Monsters. Come to think of it, actually Heroes was the one missing from that list... :)

This has 'Holy Grail' written all over it...and the story behind it is phenomenal!

Back in 1977, the Alberti Record Manufacturing plant in Monterey Park, California was commissioned by the U.S. division of RCA Records to press the upcoming release of David Bowie's 'Heroes' album. As soon as the master plates arrived, the production crew 'fired up' the machines. To make a first test pressing, some leftover, colored vinyl chips were used, resulting in this white, red and blue pressing, which in a way can only be described as the perfect Bowie aesthetic. While the order was for 'black' vinyl only, the Alberti plant thought that RCA might be interested in considering this multi-colored pressing and mailed it out to the record company representative. RCA was not interested and mailed back the record with a 'thanks, but no thanks' note. The record got stored away and eventually ended in the hands of a plant employee, who kept it for the past 39 years!

Stamped with the official AFL-1-2522 matrix and accompanied by the original labels on each side, this is simply as rare as it will ever get. The record shows some handling wear on each side, but we doubt that anyone would want to buy this album to actually play it.

If you ever wanted an original David Bowie collectible that literally no one else has, than this is your chance.

The sleeve has sticker residu, so I doubt it's original anyway.
