I'd intended posting this since first joining as 'The Hype' in 2008, but time (and memory) skips away.
In or around 1995 I had stolen from my house a GEM Hunky Dory (Sepia) Promotional kit, signed on the the front by David, the 'David' part of the signature unfortunately being overwritten by one on my young children a couple of years earlier. (David didn't sign all copies of the pack) I'd owned this since it's release.
The theft happened whilst I was trading some Bowie items at my home, which was then in Paisley, Scotland, by a fellow who had travelled across from Edinburgh. Whilst he was there I happened to show him some of my other Bowie items, this GEM pack being amongst them. It was only sometime after he'd left did I realise he was away with my pack. Of course I informed the Police but sadly there wasn't much they could do, he had rang me in answer to an add I'd placed, so no number. I was far too trustworthy unfortunately.
Inside the GEM pack along with the usual items, was a hand written letter from David in answer to the question "Do you travel home after your concerts or stay in hotels" David had answered that he travels home as much as possible so he can be with his wife and new son. The letter was given to me by an ex girlfriend, the letter is addressed to Alma.
I've added an example photograph of the pack, it isn't the one I owned.
Why am I posting this now? A couple of reasons:
Firstly, Has anyone ever seen either the letter or the pack? Distinguishable by the over written signature. Secondly, if anyone here owns either the pack or letter, then be advised it is stolen property.
I'd given up on this being back in my possession a long time ago, that ship has sailed, but I would like to draw attention to it's history should it have crossed anyone's path.
(one thing that stuck in my mind at the time was when he said he knew a friend in Edinburgh who owned some of Bowie's stage gear - also stolen no doubt)
Thanks for reading
Colin
