First issue with laminated cover (front only) and no Gem logo on the back. Has "BOBIL" and "RASPUTIN" in the dead wax. Insert and labels are identical to those of the second issue (see IdbD Ref#6762.
Close examination (of the fourth image) reveals that the GEM logo was artworked out on this issue. The second issue reinstates the logo in a similar location.

The second cover (original UK catalogue number)
First UK pressings can be found in both laminated and unlaminated form, with the first issue laminated versions (sans Gem logo) among the most desirable and expensive collectibles. This second issue, also available with sleeve laminated or (non-laminated) matt (shown here) includes the same record with "Bobil" and "Rasputin" in the deadwax. As with all RCA first pressings, the label has a gloss finish. As you can see from the back cover details, the UK art uses the US art as its source, a common occurrence with Bowie's RCA releases.
A Canadian pressing for the UK was also distributed in this sleeve in 1972-73. Please see IdbD Ref#6770.

A variation of the second cover, printed on more sturdy cardboard when compared to IdbD Ref#6762. The sleeve also is more reddish-tinted (on the right in the comparison picture). This copy came with the same record as IdbD Ref#7164, so with the Mainman/Chrysalis/Bowie credits. It's unknown if this combination represents an original configuration.

There was a worldwide vinyl shortage in 1972 & 1973 and RCA UK imported US and Canadian pressed albums to cover the shortfall in local production. This is the imported Canadian pressing in a Canadian sleeve. The front cover omits the company logos and catalogue number and the title is presented in an alternative thin black sans serif font. The back cover follows the US configuration but has the sepia tint and additional manufacturing info in red in the footer.
The Canadian pressing was also distributed in a UK 'second cover' sleeve, IdbD Ref#6762.

Later pressing, essentially identical to the above but with the addition of the "Mainman" logo on the rear sleeve. The insert is identical to the one shown previously. The label is practically identical to IdbD Ref#26747, but Bowie's name has been added to the publisher credits.

Budget price reissue on RCA International. Same as UK 1971, except RCA International logo in upper right of front and back cover. Also some differences in the footer, eg MainMan logo. Printing info on back cover says 1980, but it appears that the actual release was not until January 1981.
The question marks in the side A matrix number represent some handscratched characters that I am not able to read (positioned below the printed number).
Many copies came with a "Best Buy" sticker.
